Who We Are
The Coalition for Modernizing Dental Licensure (CMDL) was founded in October 2018 by the American Dental Association, the American Dental Education Association and the American Student Dental Association.
These three founding organizations have been working for many years to improve the dental licensure process, have joined together to author the Report of the Task Force on Assessment of Readiness to Practice (TARP), and now have established the Coalition.
This Coalition will advocate for licensure reform and is committed to two key goals:
- Eliminating the single encounter, procedure-based patient examinations, replacing them with clinical assessments that have stronger validity and reliability evidence and
- Increasing initial licensure portability to allow for professional mobility and improve access to care
