Who We Are
The Coalition for Modernizing Dental Licensure is made up of over 65 national and state organizations, institutions and programs representing dentistry, dental education, dental specialties, dental hygiene and non-profit groups working to advance access to oral health care.
Prior to the establishment of the Coalition in October of 2018, the three founding organizations, the American Dental Association (ADA), the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) and the American Student Dental Association (ASDA) joined together to author the Report of the Task Force on Assessment of Readiness to Practice (TARP) (PDF).
This Coalition is committed to the advancement of two key goals:
- Eliminating the single encounter, procedure-based patient examinations, replacing them with clinical assessments that have stronger validity and reliability evidence and
- Increasing initial licensure portability to allow for professional mobility and improve access to care
