Dental Licensure by State Map

The Dental Licensure Dashboard is provided by the ADA. The ADA attempts to keep all maps current based on available information from state dental boards, clinical testing agencies and state dental associations. Although the ADA is aware that changes may be in process across the states, only official documented changes are reflected on the maps.

Individuals seeking dental licensure requirements are strongly urged to consult with the respective state board of dentistry for additional information, in addition to using the Dental Licensure Dashboard.

Note: Recommended browser is Chrome.

Access the Dental Licensure Maps

Select the Initial Licensure Requirements map or the Licensure by Credentials map located under the purple Dental Licensure Dashboard at the top. Click on the state you’re interested in to see detailed information, including links to applications and the state dental board website. A PDF of the information is available to download or print by clicking on the PDF icon (download PDF) in the upper right corner of the title bar.

The ADA attempts to keep the map and associated information current, but the state dental board is the appropriate agency to contact for the most current and up-to-date information about licensure requirements. The Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations website provides current information on national dental and dental hygiene examinations, test administration eligibility windows, and testing centers. Find clinical testing agencies on ADA.org and visit their websites for updates on pending and future clinical examination schedules.
